Group Morale

6.5/10 - Half our group was busy with other large assignments this week, which lent to less time spent on the game itself. It’s unfortunate, but hopefully after this week we will all be able to sprint to the finish line for our game. The goal is in sight!

What were your concrete goals for the week?

What goals were you able to accomplish?

If there were goals you were unable to meet, what were the reasons?

What are your specific goals for the next week?

What did you learn this week, if anything (and did you expect to learn it?)

What is your individual morale (which might be different from the overall group morale)?

What were your concrete goals for the week?

More work on the point lights, specifically to have them correspond to candles in the rooms.

What goals were you able to accomplish?

Pretty much all I got around to doing was talking over logistics for the lighting with Jimmy.  There’s some existing code to add more point lights into the game, so the idea was to identify the coordinates of the candles in the game (which should be fairly consistent as there are only a few room types and candles would only be situated accordingly and aren’t randomized) and then generate lights at those points.  All of the actual implementation is still yet to be done, unfortunately.

If there were goals you were unable to meet, what were the reasons?

The past week was pretty busy with studying for a midterm and completing a programming assignment (which I am still working on as we speak), so I didn’t get to make any concrete progress writing any code for the candle light implementation.  Since I will be done with my homework come midnight tonight, I should have time to get started proper on the candle lighting over the next week.

What are your specific goals for the next week?

Actually gonna get to work on getting the candle light stuff in, which should hopefully not be too complicated.  Whenever that’s done, I can try to implement whatever other visual effects we critically need.

What did you learn this week, if anything (and did you expect to learn it?)

Just another reminder that the quarter gets pretty dangerous around this point.  Only a few more weeks until the end, hopefully week 10 isn’t too hard on all of us since endgame quarter stuff is coming pretty fast.

What is your individual morale (which might be different from the overall group morale)?

Probably like a 6/10, though I’d attribute that more to classes in general being a bit rough rather than 125 troubles at the moment.  Even though I always seem to say that we’re getting pretty close to the deadline, it’s actually getting a little scary thinking we have about 2 weeks until our game needs to be finished up.  We’re definitely getting closer to our original vision, but we’ll just have to see how much of it we’ll be able to realize come the end of the quarter.

What were your concrete goals for the week?

Improve gameplay and work on the mage class.

What goals were you able to accomplish?

I got the mouse input code started such that clicking would turn and attack in the given direction (this was extended by the others after), added a defense/parry mechanism, and set up a character class system that can be cycled through via a key press. The current classes are only mage and warrior for now but is easily extended.

If there were goals you were unable to meet, what were the reasons?

What are your specific goals for the next week?

Get the mage attack and defense working and maybe extend combat further and/or include even more classes.

What did you learn this week, if anything (and did you expect to learn it?)

N/A

What is your individual morale (which might be different from the overall group morale)?

8/10 I got a lot done this week and feeling good about it.

What were your concrete goals for the week?

Combat + slimes.

What goals were you able to accomplish?

We added a defensive option for combat, slimes, and better controls/aiming.

If there were goals you were unable to meet, what were the reasons?

N/A

What are your specific goals for the next week?

  1. Working mage combat mechanics (attack, defense, and MP)
  2. Better mob behaviors + more mobs
  3. Some infrastructure improvements for rendering performance/extensibility

What were your concrete goals for the week?

Get started on animation, finish up mimic chest and maybe start looking into sound.

What goals were you able to accomplish?

I was able to finish up the mimic chest and also begin looking into some interesting sound effects, as well as music that could be used to lend to the mood of the game.

If there were goals you were unable to meet, what were the reasons?

I was unable to get started on animations due to some texture and loading issues with the rooms - most of my time was spent on that and making sure that they would load once graphics was able to finish setting up textures.

What are your specific goals for the next week?

Get started on animation and work on a door model. (And perhaps work on the other two character models if I’m ahead of schedule).

What did you learn this week, if anything (and did you expect to learn it?)

Murphy’s law is very real with this project, so I need to predict more hiccups and budget my time more wisely.
