What were your concrete goals for the week?

Finish up the lighting effects for the candles primarily.  With that done, I’m about to start on making a minimap that shows the room grid as well as which rooms the players are currently in.

What goals were you able to accomplish?

We now have working lighting for all of the candles on the map!  We designed it so that the candles only light up in the rooms the players are currently in.  It adds a pretty interesting aesthetic to our game so it’s cool to see how it looks in relation to everything else we have so far.

If there were goals you were unable to meet, what were the reasons?

It wasn’t really a matter of goals being unmet, but the candle lights took a bit longer than expected.  Those are perfectly functional now though, so now it’s just a matter of clearing out the highest priority issues in the couple days we have left.

What are your specific goals for the next week?

Hopefully get the minimap working properly in the next couple days.  If things go especially well, I might be able to do some other things after finishing it, but this is probably the most important thing since it can be difficult to navigate the map without having any idea either of where you are or more importantly where the other players are.  Past demo stuff, just have to finish another CS assignment and take a psychology final on Monday.  After that, I guess I’m officially done with academic concerns and I’ll probably spend the rest of next week recovering accordingly haha.

What did you learn this week, if anything (and did you expect to learn it?)

Last week I tried using the mouse raycast to identify the locations of candles on the map, but it turned out there were some slight problems with the accuracy of points.  I ended up downloading Blender and loading in the room models Vivian made to grab the specific points of the candles in the room straight from the source.  It was a bit questionable trying to reorient the room and all without a mouse since I was on my laptop, but the points I got ended up being far more accurate, so that was a relief.

I also found that for the past few days I had some bizarre compiler error from a file I’d never touched and couldn’t run my code at all.  I’m actually not super positive, but I think it was a file included in Glitter or some other library, and I ended up Googling a workaround that let me build my code again.  But it was pretty perplexing since I had no idea why it just happened to start being a problem now and was clearly not so for the others trying to run their code.  It’s weird, but as long as I can run my code properly again and it’s not related to our actual game mechanics or anything like that, it should hopefully be fine.

What is your individual morale (which might be different from the overall group morale)?

Probably somewhere between a 6 or a 7.  I’m really impressed by how far we’ve come since the beginning and at this stage we’re largely just adding a few things that help the gameplay experience as our core gameplay is functional and apparently pretty fun to play!  But I am concerned since it’s 2 days until the big day and I really hope we don’t stumble into some unforeseen disaster that causes huge problems for our game at the last minute.  In general I think I’ll be pretty stressed until Monday afternoon, and focusing on the last touches for our game means I won’t really get to focus on my other responsibilities (basically a PA due by end of Saturday and a final on Monday) until, well, basically the weekend, and I have a pretty bad feeling about those things, but once I get to Monday afternoon everything should be fine.

What were your concrete goals for the week?

We wanted to add more mobs / combat mechanics.

What goals were you able to accomplish?

I am currently working on more mobs, and I also contributed significantly to the new lighting changes. More combat mechanics and balance adjustments for combat have been made.

If there were goals you were unable to meet, what were the reasons?

What were your concrete goals for the week?

Create two extra character models - healer and paladin. Also worked on different color themed models (blue and red) so that it would be easier to tell which team was which.

What goals were you able to accomplish?

All of them! Was also able to quickly animate the new character models. I have also started working on background music via an online music composer.

If there were goals you were unable to meet, what were the reasons?

None!

What are your specific goals for the next week?

There is no next week - there is only the demo.

However for the next two days I will be polishing the models and (if animations seem good to go) adding last minute enemy and object animations!

What did you learn this week, if anything (and did you expect to learn it?)

Music composition is difficult.

What is your individual morale (which might be different from the overall group morale)?

6/10 - I finished all my concrete goals but I am still stressed.
