Little fixes. Change flag capture number to 5. No longer change PLAYER state if in one. GROWTH guy causes dazed status on those he hits! (bug, doesn't work on clients, but still work having on the server). Added you win sound.

Remotes now randomly spawn at one of three spawnpoints. On top of the table, on the oven or on the toolbox in the garage. We now have a very playable game cycle.

FIX: Made some changes to client code so that all the CHANGE_* msgs aren't processed if the client is sharing its world w/ the server. this should keep the server from glitching so much.

Got animation of SQUASHED and GROWTH to work on server and clients! This required fancy stuff with time. Time (like stateGetState) cannot be sent over the network, as computers might have different times. Thus, all time based code must be done from the client. But the client needs to know when events/statechanges happen to other clients.

Currently, m_dLastShot is used and set by everyone to determine these events. This is a bug. m_dLastShot should only be used for firing rate.

Still need to slow movement for SQUASHED, and stop firing. Still need to do collision effects when hit by GROWTH player. Need to not change mental states immediately if hit by a new weapon.

Reflections: Now,.. there is a way to specify which rooms have reflect floors To Set a floor as reflective do: cRBuilder3->ReflectionsOnOff(true); Not reflective by default. Also, a scenery object has to be explicity able to be reflected. To do this: pScene->SetReflect(true); IMPORTANT NOTE (NICK-READ THIS): I had to move the drawroom in SpudGfx back down. I think we moved it up to get rid of the jumpyness.... so we need to move the world locks again.

FIX: Fixed more Model_3DS bugs. I think it's finally bullet-proof. Mental note -- never again rely on code that you get off the web. :) There were some uninitialized values that were being accessed causing the game to crash when in release mode. Strange thing is that debug mode let it slide.

FIX: Radar no longer displays items. This keeps the 0,0,0 dot from appearing on the display. Since all items are contained within spawnpoints or used by a player at all times, this doesn't break the radar at all. Yes, I know these are hacks but this week is d-day and hacks are necessary. We can focus on other things besides the 0,0,0 bug now. :)

FIX: I commented out the collision code for Player->Item collisions. This was originally intended so we could pick up "freelance" items, but since we don't use them, I've disabled the collision code. The infamous 0,0,0 bug was caused when the player collided with an item at 0,0,0 that was invalid. Note that I haven't fixed what actually creates the item in the first place, but I've kept us from being able to collide with it, effectively solving the problem for the demo's sake.

Forgot to change one more thing to make sure items don't glitch on client side.. fixed now.
Changed spinning when player gets hit by spudgun to make it less chaotic - it looks better now.
Temporarily turned off dependency on vCamera when player is dazed. This was what caused the client to "Black Out" when hit by a spudbullet. It still doesn't turn red on client side, but at least the screen won't go black on you.

Respawning enabled along with action mapping adjustment. Playername for action mapping is now taken from the global playername. Action mapping now immediately reassigns buttons. There are 5 optional buttons that work. r to respawn yourself. v for changing view 0,1,2. m for HUD map on/off. c for culling on/off. g for graphics on/off. NOTE: you can now immediately assign new keys in the ActionMap.

FIX: Game will now run in release mode -- try it!
Note-- remember to *NEVER* put code inside an assertion that you want to execute because assertions are ignored in release mode. this was causing a crash. example: don't do: assert( g_pSpudGame->Init( g_pWorld ) );
instead, do this: int result = g_pSpudGame->Init( g_pWorld ); assert(result);

My win98 setup throws a fit unless we DPServer->Close(), so I added that. Also with regards to memory access fault when changing rooms, it looks like its safe to just ignore any garbage values that invalid rooms that Protal Check may return under the assumption that the next iteration it will fix it (which I watched it do). Got to tip my hat to Nick for suggesting that in the first place but I accused him of hacking... but now I'm finally convinced.

FIXES:
1. Memory leaks in Model_3DS eliminated (--this was pretty MAJOR!!!--)
2. Now, when you collide with a wall and become frozen, your client won't try to send actions to the server during that time
3. Projectiles now have the correct models... e.g. the ice gun shoots ice bullets and the spud gun shoots spud bullets
4. Got "Release" code to compile (as opposed to Debug) but it crashes on execution... we have to look at this.

Projectile type is now set by the server when the projectile is first created instead of getting it from the player object by the client. Sometimes the gun would be deleted from the inventory before the last bullet was created causing a problem.

Players now spawn at the spawning points. Each finish point is now correlated with a team. Each spawning point is now correlated with a finish point. When new players are created, they are added alternately to teams. Spawn points were raised to distinguish them (and you fall into the game).

Game Cycle!!!! Map STL goo was resolved by not accessing the map from the SpudServer message callback. That was bad I guess. Currently you can capture the duff can at the first finish point. SpudGame.cpp and SpudGame.h include a backup implementation of the game state data structure that uses finite arrays (simply test). But the FULL BLOWN std::map version w/ dynamic teams, players, spawn points, and finish points is up. Horrah.

When a client quits the game, they actually disappear immediately and don't cause a bizarre slowdown. Woohoo! If the server quits the game, the clients should quit the game automatically. I still haven't made the lobby correctly handle people leaving, but that will be in the next update.

The duff can is our remote b/c I couldn't get the remote model to appear... My STL goo can add finish points (cap points) and teams, but has issues adding players to teams. The access violation is buried in the STL code, and is making me suspicious. Anyhow, the remote (duff can) behaves a little different than spudgun (both items) b/c you can't shoot it. for now the only way to get rid of it is to cap it. That happens in UpdateGameState() in SpudGameCapRemote. No game cycle until we can add players to teams :(

So because for some reason I couldn't have more than 5 std::map in a class, I offer the ultimate work around. SpudGame inherits from two base classes, SpudGamePlayers and SpudGameItems. And you guessed it, one base class has half the maps and the other has the rest. Its kinda pretty. SpudGameCommon holds common headers and some typedefs.

Fixed 2 bugs: 1) John's new code caused the game to fail on an assertion in his code upon collision. I fixed it for now. 2) The infamous "can't move forward or backward after a long fall from above" bug is fixed. :)

REFLECTIONS: Added reflections to the floor. It looks pretty nifty but can slow down the game a little. We should add a togglable menu for this. To turn this on/off use "reflection" in SpudGfx.

Roommanager now displays all rooms that can be seen from the viewing frustum. No more empty doorways. Currently, you will see a drop in frame rate, I will be fixing this. The reason for this in the room culling algorithm that i'm using.

SpudInput rewritten for action maps. There should be a 20-50% increase in framerate. You can view your buttons at the start of the game on all devices. Control has replaced Enter now. There are some bugs with devices with Axis, like the mouse and gamepad, and the "g" button is not mapped yet. This version crashes on me when I exit, but i don't think it is due to the input. Kill the dpnsvr and now, the sidewinder program if one is running.

Fixed code so it works until Cyrus puts his up, but I think I did it right. I just added three variables (int total_room, int total_room_culling, bool culling) to the SpudGfx class and initialized them to 0, 0, and true, respectively. Is this correct? It seems to work.

Implemented Frustum Culling Now only objects (projectiles, players, etc ) in the viewing frustum are being displayed. On top of that rooms that are not in your viewing frustum are also being culled out. This should produce a considerable speed up. Especially once we start adding more objects to our levels. NOTE: don't worry about the lights turning on and off. This is a glLighting problem. Which we haven't really worried about yet. This will be fixed once the rooms loader is finished.

Added ability to turn graphics on or off during game. Hit 'g' while playing to toggle. This saves some CPU cycles when you're running more than one game on the same computer (although I still have trouble even with gfx off)

Sound on the client should be starting to come together. Code base for server messages to play a sound is in place. 3D collisions (so event triggered 3D sound). Code that used to be in the world code has been migrated into the server code (i.e. server detects a collision, sends packets to the right people to play sounds) I think that's it.

3D (engine) sound for the server and the client(s). I'm currently looking for a guinea pig to test it on, so get in touch with me if things arn't going as you think they should. The sound engine picks the 3 (configurable) closest players and plays their sounds, so we won't try to play everyone's sounds if we get a big game.

Resolution that you are running can now be referenced globally using the following : int globalWidth int globalHeight Currently it is still being set by #define RES_WIDTH etc... but later these variables should be set by the game player... probobly from the MFC dialog that Nick is writing...

A large new addition, with items, spawning points and inventory. SpudItem class created, network message passage for ITEM created. SpudItems must be owned by SpudScenery or SpudPlayer. Everything else has been modified to adjust for Items. Also, Scenery can be assigned as Spawning Points for Items now. Finally, the player has an inventory, which can pick up items from spawning points. Use the Enter key (fire) to get rid of the items (takes 5 seconds). Once the Inventory is used up, it will disappear.

"The Death of the green lantern..."

I fixed the "green" problem only 2 find it waz in exchange 4 a "red" problem
becuz of the RoomBuilder...but Cyrus fixed that. So I fixed how the game loads

5/09/01 "Rock the Cradle of Love..."

(Collision Detection) Now Players can run into Scenery Objects !!! Also "proper" collision detection is now in place...Meaning no more coasting through things. :-) And the models are resized so there is no more scaling to get the right size.

Gfx Engine Restructure:

Since any client will only pick from a set of known models, the Gfx engine will now load them ONCE, then any client will just have the id of the appropriate one.

Advantages:
- All the client classes are smaller and the entire game needs less memory!
-No more double/triple copies of models in memory!

Network code structure changed! pClient is always initialized even if you are a server. The server code does not create it's own player anymore. The client initialized with the server has a special exception to not double players with AddObj to the World. SpudRacer.cpp has been simplified. SpudClient correctly destructs now and no longer crashes on quitting. There do not seem to be anymore crashes on WM_CLOSE on both the server and client in Win98. One Bug: A pure client seems to be adding 2 players, and creating a collision conflict.

I've left the public methods the same, as well as added a few to help control sounds that are playing. We can scale sounds to reflect engine velocity by modulating the frequency. Sounds that accurately represent other players will need some more work. -=={{ put you favorite .mp3 in "./audio/spudracer.mp3" }}==- 44khz recommended. until I get the menu working, use the #define at the beginning of SpudRacer.cpp to disable all sounds.

UpdateWorld now happens at 25ms intervals, Changed some scrolltext, Players actually disappear from world when they disconnect
