My concrete goals for this week were to finish and finalize the concept of the game, create the finished sketches of the player ships and the mothership, and share modeling the ships.
I accomplished finalizing the appearance of the mothership, and I received feedback to tweak the player ships to be smaller and single-seated.
Unfortunately, I could not start modeling this week. I'm not familiar with hard science-fiction and originally pictured the game to have a more cartoony feel, so it took me longer than expected to find references and come up with an adequate concept of the two types of ships in the game. Then, this delay along with the feedback I received from the team about the ship concepts stalled my goal to start modeling. Luckily, I also spent this week gathering Blender tutorials, so even though I will start modeling next week I already have resources to help me and I should be able to stay on schedule.
For next week, my specific goals are to start and finish a low polygon model of the mothership and player ship, and draft some UI interfaces for the game.
This week I learned that concepting needs to be finished faster because I also want to receive every team members opinions and incorporate it into the game. To achieve this, I need to learn to be more confident in my artistic decisions.
I'm a little scared that I will fall behind schedule because I need to relearn Blender in a short amount of time, and the ship designs (once I add more details) will be complex. However, I am excited that my concepts of the game match the team's expectations overall!
