My main goal for the week was to start implementing actual game logic and gameplay. Things like more in-game features, objectives, etc.
I was able to make solid progress toward this goal. As a group, we discussed upcoming additions to the game, including our win/lose conditions and player roles. Individually, I expanded the game by implementing randomized asteroids with variations in model, size, and rotation. I also added markers to our game objects and developed a clearer understanding of the next steps in our development process.
I came down with a fairly bad cold this week, which prevented me from meeting with my group in person on Thursday. I usually value our in-class collaboration time on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so missing that session was disappointing and slightly disrupted my workflow.
Next week, I plan to integrate a text library to add UI elements, particularly for object markers. I also want to continue building out gameplay features to make the game more interactive and playable.
This week, I gained a better understanding of how to structure and implement gameplay systems, particularly in terms of adding variation (like randomized asteroids) and organizing future development steps. I expected to learn more about gameplay implementation, but the depth of planning and coordination involved was especially valuable.
My morale is high going into next week. Being able to sit down as a group and align on the direction of the game was really motivating. Now that I'm recovering from being sick and have a clearer vision for the project, I'm excited to continue developing and improving the game.
