This week I wanted to finish all the ship materials and push them to the main branch.
I only finished the playership materials. There are four different color but similarly designed playerships.
This week went differently again, but I'm glad that I have less ships to paint now. Creating the UV maps and resolving any Z-fighting is the most time-consuming part. However, I had a pipeline down for texture painting and rendering it! I create the custom UV maps in Blender, making sure that there are no overlaps, then export an OBJ file. I open the OBJ file in Procreate and paint as much as I can. For the playership, I mostly painted base colors in Procreate, then I re-upload to Blender for finishing touches and to double check everything looks ok on the model(s). I left the straight edge details to Blender because my brushes in Procreate were too pixelated and uneven.
Next week, I plan to finish the mothership material. I also already have free Blender assets for our alien enemies and other special-role equipment. This should create less models for me.
I can't believe Blender doesn't automatically save the image of the newly painted UV maps. I learned the hard way, as every beginner Blender artist does, and wondered why my painted detailed straight lines disappeared!
I am feeling less frustrated! However, I do need to watch my Blender usage because my hand hurts from gripping the mouse for long hours. I feel reinvigorated and can see the finish line!
