My goals were to work on the UI, displaying them (especially the tasks and emergencies) in the game, and helping with level design.
I was able to both design and finish the UI in terms of the assets, but they haven't all been exported to the game yet. I also helped finish the infrastructure to display the UI as PNGs in the game along with my teammate; I especially helped with integrating the timer to be more similar to this infrastructure along with refining the functions a bit to be more universal. I also helped with playtesting.
The week went differently than I had planned as both time I needed to spend on my other classes, and the time I needed to spend on the tasks I set out to do this week are longer, thus causing less of the goals I had planned to do to be done. This week was very busy with a midterm and other assignments due for my other classes, meaning I couldn't spend so much time on this class. Furthermore, this was my first time designing a UI, and the first time I made vector arts, meaning it took some time finishing the assets themselves. I was thinking the UIs designing and making process wouldn't take so long, but it ended up taking most of the time I spent for this class this week.
I surely want to get all of the game UIs to be exported and displayed in the game by next week, along with the triggers from the server to display these in the client correctly (like for the emergencies alert). I would also like to design and make the UIs for the main menu either, and ideally I'd like these to be already displayed in the game as well by the end of next week.
I learned how to both design readable and nice-to-look designs with the help of feedback from my teammates, along with using Vectorpea in order to make vector arts. I wasn't expecting to learn this because at first I thought using PNG arts would be enough, but I ended up really not liking how pixelated they are when displayed in the game and thus I switched to making vector arts, which I needed to learn.
My morale is overall okay this week. I'm a bit sad that I can't work on the class as much as I wanted and finish everything, but after some reflection, I understand that I'm entering subjective and new territories of making arts, which made it made more sense. For the progress of the game itself, my morale towards it is really good, since we're very close to the end and I feel very positive about my teams and our abilities in making a great game by the end of the quarter.
