Meera’s Week 5 Report

Goals

  • Finish textures for tiles and grass
  • Start on other assets (pickup items, etc)
  • Decide on other sound effects to add?

Accomplished Goals

  • The textures have been finished! I’m still getting used to pixel art but I would hope I didn’t do too badly. Here they are, tiled:
Cracked tile
Dead grass
  • I’ve also started working on the pickup assets (see the group report for more on that).
  • The title screen has been completely finished, and split up into layers for the graphics team to use more effectively. Not much about the design has changed from last week though — it was mainly just a matter of colouring things in.

Missed Goals

  • I haven’t put nearly enough thought into the audio end of things yet. I’m way ahead of schedule because the soundtrack is essentially done, but I have never done sound effects before, and have no idea where to start.

Next Week’s Goals

  • Have the rest of the 2D assets done.
  • Make actually significant progress on the remainder of the soundtrack, just to get it out of the way.
  • Maybe write variations on the combat theme for each stage?

Lessons

  • Pixel art continues to be difficult.
  • Procrastinate less.

Morale

  • Honestly could be higher. I’ve been very busy with exams this week, so I’ve been incredibly stressed.
